What is Continuing Education
Continuing Education, often referred to as CE, is a structured program used to support certification or accreditation requirements.
Continuing education programs are designed to ensure members meet specific learning or training criteria in order to become certified or remain certified.
In Member365, continuing education is managed through programs that track credits or hours earned by members over time.
How Continuing Education Programs Work
A Continuing Education Program defines the requirements a member must complete to earn certification.
These requirements are measured using credits or hours. Members earn credits or hours by completing approved learning items within the program.
Programs are structured to clearly define:
What must be completed
How many credits or hours are required
When those credits or hours must be earned
What is an Activity
In Member365, an Activity is something a member completes to earn continuing education hours or credits.
Activities are the individual learning items within a program. When an activity is completed, the assigned hours or credits are applied to the member’s program progress.
Common examples of activities include:
Courses
Webinars
Workshops
Conferences
Training sessions
Each activity is assigned a specific number of credits or hours and is associated with a level.
What is a Level
In Member365, a Level is a grouping used to organize activities by requirement type or subject area.
Levels define how many credits or hours a member must earn within a specific category to complete the program.
For example, a program may require:
A set number of credits for Ethics
A set number of credits for Professional Development
A set number of credits for a Specialized Area
Only activities assigned to a specific level count toward fulfilling that level’s requirement.
How Activities and Levels Work Together
Activities exist within levels.
When a member completes an activity, the credits or hours earned apply to the level that activity is associated with. Members must complete enough activities in each level to meet the program’s requirements.
Collection Periods
Continuing education programs in Member365 are completed within a defined time frame called a Collection Period.
A collection period sets the start and end dates during which credits or hours can be earned for a program. Credits earned outside of the collection period do not count toward program completion.
How Everything Fits Together
In Member365, Continuing Education Programs are structured as follows:
Activities are what members complete to earn credits or hours
Level group activities and define credit requirements
Collection Periods define the time frame for earning credits
Members must complete all required levels within the collection period to successfully complete the continuing education program.
