Understanding the Text Editor and Merge Tags for Custom Name Badges

The text editor throughout Member365 is relatively consistent across the platform. The main differences lie in what merge tags can be used. Some components are described in other parts of the Knowledge Base, in which case, we will direct you there. However, by the end of this article, you will have a strong understanding of how to use each component of the text editor for Custom Name Badges.

Note

The most important component of this article is likely Item 13. 'Merge Tags' but because it is the last button on the editor, it fell to the end of this article. Please scroll directly to that item if that's what brought you to this article

  1. 'Source

The 'Source' button allows you to edit the badge using the code. If you're not familiar or comfortable with code, there may still be times you want to use this component (with the help of AI) as seen in this article.

  2. The 'Cut', 'Copy', and 'Paste' buttons

While you can use these buttons to cut, copy, and paste, most people will be used to keyboard shortcuts (e.g., 'Ctrl + C') or right-clicking to perform these tasks.

  3.  The 'Undo' and 'Redo' buttons

Same as above, while you can use these buttons to undo or redo your most recent action(s), most people are familiar with 'Ctrl + Z' and 'Ctrl + Y' for these functions, respectively, and those shortcuts work here, too.

  4. The 'SCAYT' button

The "Spell Check As You Type" button allows you to access the settings for WebSpellChecker. You can read more about these settings here.

  5. The 'Format', 'Font', 'Size', 'Colour', and 'Background Colour' buttons

The easiest way to use these buttons is to highlight the text you want to apply these settings to and then set them as desired, but you can also set them before you start typing the section of text that will have these settings applied.

    Format - Paragraph format (e.g., Normal, Heading 1, Heading 2, etc., ...)
Font - Type of font (e.g., Times New Roman, Arial, etc., ...)
    Size - Font size
    Colour - Font colour
Background colour - analogous to 'highlight' in other systems

  6. The 'Insert' Buttons

These buttons allow you to insert a table, divider, or special character. Both the table (left) and special character (right) buttons will take you to a pop up window to configure the table settings or select your character, respectively.

  7. The 'Format' buttons

This allows you to bold, italicize, strikethrough, or remove formatting of text. You can also use typical keyboard shortcuts (including 'Ctrl + U' which will underline the text).

  8. The 'List' buttons

These buttons allow you to turn a line (or multiple) into a numbered or bulleted list. The two greyed out buttons turn black once you have turned a line into a list and they allow you to decrease or increase the indent level of the line (commonly used for nested lists),

  9. The 'Block Quote' button

This button allows you turn turn a section of text into a 'block quote'. It's not likely you would use this feature for a name tag.

  10. The 'Paragraph Alignment' buttons

These buttons allow you to align a paragraph (or line) to the left, center, right, or justified (touching both sides where possible)

  11. The 'Linking' buttons

These buttons allow you to hyperlink text (by highlighting and clicking the leftmost button), remove a hyperlink (by highlighting and clicking the middle button), or create an anchor (which is useful for SEO and linking to specific spot on a page - not so much for name tags)

  12. The 'Image' button

This allows you to insert an image. A logo (your's or sponsors') may be relevant for a name badge. The recommended size for these logos is 100 pixels high by 250 pixels wide. Please see this article to learn how to insert an image.

  13. The 'Merge Tag' button

This button brings up a pop-up window with all the available merge tags:

By clicking the 'Use' link beside each tag, you can insert these tags into your name badge. These tags will pull the relevant information from each registrant, allowing you to instantly create and/or print a personalized badge for each person to whom a ticket for your event is assigned.

Note

The {QR_CODE} merge tag can be used to facilitate attendance marking. Please see this article to learn how.

Congratulations! You now understand the text editor for Name Badges.
